Only 17.4% of Voters Can Afford Basic Needs Without Difficulty

Turkey is facing one of the most challenging economic situations since the end of 2021. The unstable economic management causes uncertainty about the future of the Turkish economy. On the other hand, the acclaims of president Recep Tayyip Erdogan which is low-interest-rate cause low inflation also affects the current economic situation.

At the end of the last quarter of 2021, the deficiency of the Turkish lira against other currencies came to one of the highest levels in the history of the Turkish economy. The economy management chose alternative ways to keep the deficiency under control although most economists mention the importance of a high-interest rate as a critical tool of stopping higher prices. However, the uprising prices still have pressure on the Turkish community.

Turkey Monitor asked how much voters can afford basic needs easily. Only 17.4% of voters say that they can afford all or many basic needs easily while 17.2% of them can afford none of the basic needs easily. The percentage of voters who can afford a few or a little basic needs easily is 65.1%.
