Turkey Withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention: 57.9% of Voters Opinion Is Negative
57.9% of the voters’ view of the government’s withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention is negative.
Concerns about violence against women continue in Turkey. In this period of increasing concerns, the government decided to withdraw from the Istanbul Convention. The reason for withdrawal from the convention is some expressions that are not suitable for the Turkish culture, stated by the government. To protect women from violence, the government announced that Ankara Convention will be designed as a new agreement that is suitable for the Turkish culture.
Turkey Monitor asked voters about their decision to withdraw from the Istanbul Convention. 57.9% of the participants evaluated the decision very negatively/negatively. The rate of those who evaluated the decision very positively/positively was 23%.
