It’s Displaced Urbanization, Not Flood
Environmental issues continue to be the most challenging problem in Turkey. The mucilage in the Marmara Sea is the first environmental issue Turkey faced. Forest fires are the second challenging issue and now flood in the Black Sea region of Turkey is the last catastrophic problem.
The last biggest natural disaster, flood, also affected local people’s life badly. However, the main problem was not the flood, it was displaced urbanization.
Turkey Monitor asked voters ideas about the distraction of the flood in the Black Sea region. 62.6% of voters think that building houses on the stream bed is the real reason for flood distraction while it is a natural disaster for 21.3% of voters and it is a result of climate change for 16.1% of them.
